About SolarisCare

The SolarisCare Foundation's initial Cancer Support Centre is located within Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Western Australia. The Centre is a volunteer organisation, supported by the hospital and funded by community donations.

The SolarisCare Foundation was founded by Dr David Joske, Head of the Department of Haematology, in September 2001 for the specific purpose of providing supportive care to all people with cancer, their families and carers in Western Australia.

We provide a safe, friendly place where you can talk to our trained volunteers about your concerns and receive support in a variety of ways. You can have an informal chat over a cup of tea, choose to book in for a complementary therapy or access our extensive information resources.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is a major public teaching and research hospital with a world class standing. It is leading the way in Australia by providing touch based complementary therapies alongside mainstream medical care in a centrally located purpose built unit.

In April 2008, a second and larger centre was opened at St. John of God, a private hospital in Subiaco.

The SolarisCare Foundation encourages and supports communication between health care professionals, complementary therapists and people with cancer with the aim of bridging the gap of understanding that often exists between these groups.

Judging from the positive response, and an ongoing heavy demand for the therapies offered, it is now very clear that the Cancer Support Centre is providing a valuable and much needed service that has been influential in changing the face of cancer care in Western Australia.

One in three Australians are affected by cancer. Thanks to improved medical treatment people are living longer.

The SolarisCare Foundation is playing a vital role in improving the wellbeing and quality of life of people living with cancer.
